Cub Scouts at the Pinewood Derby

Cub Scouts during the
Blue and Gold Ceremony

The pinewood derby is a racing event. Scouts, with the help of parents, build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels, and metal axles. They race their cars against one another.
Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week in February with a “birthday party” called the blue and gold banquet. In nearly all packs, the blue and gold banquet is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for some fun and cheer. It includes a skit performed each year by Uncle Larry and his cubs!
Cub Scouts
Youth Grades 1-5

Cub Scouts do fun things with other kids! They get to wear a cool uniform, go places, and see things. They play all kinds of sports and build things, like race cars and bird houses.

Do you like to learn by doing? This is just the place. You can learn to tie knots, set up a tent, or shoot a bow and arrow (archery). Have you ever cooked a meal on a campfire? Sent a secret code to a buddy? Built a birdhouse? Hiked? Earn rewards for doing these things in Cub Scouts.

Uncle Larry and 2 scouts anxiously await the results of their race!

A Webelo earns his arrow of light, which he will wear on his boy scout uniform proudly showing that he completed the cub scout program

Boy scouts help with the Blue and Gold celebration by providing the music for the skit.
